What is a government-backed mortgage?
Government-backed mortgages, such as FHA, VA, and USDA loans, are insured or guaranteed by a federal agency. They can make homeownership more accessible by offering benefits such as lower down payments, more flexible qualification requirements, or special financing for eligible borrowers.
What’s the difference between the types of government-backed mortgages offered?
FHA loans are great for first-time homebuyers or those who have limited savings or less-established credit. VA home loans are intended for eligible veterans, active-duty service members, and certain surviving spouses. USDA Rural Development loans are designed for eligible homebuyers buying a home in a qualifying rural or suburban area.
Do I qualify for one of these types of home loans?
Eligibility is determined by the government agency offering the loan program. For example, the US Department of Veterans Affairs determines eligibility for VA home loans. We’d be happy to meet with you to better understand your goals for owning a home and check if you qualify for any of the government-backed loans available.
Are there limits on how much I can borrow?
Loan limits and eligibility vary depending on the loan program, your financial qualifications, and where you’re looking to buy a home. Our mortgage team can walk you through next steps to apply for a loan and how the amount borrowed is determined.
